McLaughlin Outdoors Returns To KCCI

John McLaughlin & A Large Muskie

AYA

Hi Friends,

I want to encourage you adults to consider joining our second annual Angler-Young Angler (AYA) Tournament on Big Creek Lake presented by Brightwell's Boathouse on Saturday, June 6th.  We had a ball last year and we are hoping for 50 teams of one adult and two children per boat.  The top prize is a nice Lund package complete with trailer and outboard motor.   This is a great family event and a portion of the proceeds go to Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Central Iowa.  Click the AYA link for an entry form and more details!  See you on the water June 6th.

Welcome to McLaughlin Outdoors!  I have been an outdoors person my entire life. I learned how to fish and shoot from my Grandfather when I was five years old. He bought me that first Zebco 202 combo and a Daisy BB gun.

Back then, fishing was easy.  Just row the 14' Lund about 20 feet off the dock and put down the anchor. Then, let your night crawler down to the bottom and reel back up three turns. We caught a lot of nice walleye and northern that way. Wish it was still that easy!

Four decades later, my passion for the outdoors is just as strong, and I am still fishing the same lake that Grandpa Otto taught me how to read long before I had my first Lowrance "green box!"  If I am not out fishing, then you'll find me in the deer stand, or hunting pheasants and turkeys with my sons.

Some have asked why I would create my own fishing and hunting web page.  There are certainly many top notch sites to share hunting and fishing information.  This site will be different in that you are getting information from someone who has spent more than half of my life communicating outdoor information to the general public...with the added benefit of sharing background weather knowledge that can only come from a professional meteorologist.  We have nothing to sell you.

The products we use and write about are products we believe in and really use.  Nobody is paying us to say we recommend a specific lure, rod and reel, shotgun or compound bow.  We have gone out of our way to affiliate with dealers, guides and other vendors who share our passion for the outdoors and commitment to being ethical in business.

I hope you enjoy visiting McLaughlin Outdoors.  Please share your photos, stories, and information that can help others make their next outdoor adventure even more enjoyable. E-mail us at john@mclaughlinoutdoors.com
